Looking for a fun and interesting evening out? Our very own Bryan Black will be
a guest speaker at an upcoming event at the Marietta Museum of History! EVENING WITH HISTORY • SEPTEMBER 17 • 7pm Bryan Black, Cobb Symphony Chorus Director and Music Director at First United Methodist Church, will be here to speak on Shape Notes. This primitive music system for singers simplifies the process of reading music by replacing traditional musical notes with shapes. It achieved its highest popularity during the Revolutionary War period, but fell out of fashion by the mid 1800's. The one area where it lingered was in the Sacred Music of the American South, and Black will share the history of the art from his personal experience as a 5th generation Shape Notes singer.
