Don Strand earned his Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from the University of Georgia, where he was selected as national winner of the Brass Division of the prestigious Music Teachers National Association Collegiate Artist Competition. His principal teachers include Arnold Jacobs, David Randolph and Abe Torchinsky. Arguably the busiest free-lance tubist in the southeastern United States, Mr. Strand is the principal tubist of the Atlanta Opera Orchestra, Columbus (Georgia) Symphony, the Cobb Symphony, and the Greenville (South Carolina) Symphony. He has also appeared with the Atlanta Symphony, Birmingham Symphony, Savannah Symphony; Charleston Symphony, Augusta Symphony, Jacksonville (Florida) Symphony, and with the Spoleto Festival Orchestra in Spoleto, Italy.

In frequent demand as a soloist, Mr. Strand has performed the Vaughan-Williams Concerto for Tuba and Orchestra with both the Columbus Symphony Orchestra and the DekaIb Symphony Orchestra. He has also appeared as soloist playing the Gregson Tuba Concerto with the West Georgia College Festival Band, DeKaIb Wind Ensemble, and with the Winder-Barrow High School Symphonic Band at the University of South Carolina School of Music Conductors' Symposium. Mr. Strand has presented recitals and master classes throughout the country from Seattle to Richmond, including recitals at Indiana University and Northwestern University, and down the east coast to Winter Park, Florida. Also an active chamber musician, Mr. Strand performs regularly with the Peachtree Brass Quintet, giving over 100 in-school concerts each year. He tours nationwide with the Atlanta Brassworks and in his spare time had the opportunity to record for Bruce Springsteen's latest album "Devils and Dust" which was ranked #1 on the charts upon its release. In addition to maintaining a full studio of private tuba students, Mr. Strand serves on the music faculty of Gainesville College.
