Orchestra → Meet the Orchestra → Kathy Wood
Kathy Wood has been an active musician in the southeast for over 20 years. She has held principal horn positions in the Savannah Symphony Orchestra, Charleston Symphony Orchestra, and a one-year assistant principal horn position in the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Kathy studied primarily with David Krehbiel, principal horn of the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra. She also spent a summer in Oslo, Norway in intensive study with horn soloist Froydis Wekre. Kathy has worked one-on-one with such notable artists as Arnold Jacobs, Gunther Schuller, and Phillip Farkas. Currently enjoying freelance work, Kathy plays with the Atlanta Opera Orchestra, Cobb Symphony Orchestra, Gwinnett Philharmonic, touring Broadway shows, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (extra) and other selective engagements. As a teacher, Kathy has taught and mentored young Cobb County horn players who have gone on to conservatories such as Julliard School of Music, Curtis Institute, and the Mannes School of Music.
