Cobb Symphony Orchestra

georgia youth symphonyDr. Michael Alexander is the Orchestra Director at Kennesaw State University and Music Director/Conductor of the Cobb Symphony Orchestra. Prior to moving to Cobb County, Dr. Alexander served as Music Director of the Green Bay Youth Symphony Orchestras and on the faculty at Ripon College. In the summer of 2003, he completed his Doctor of Musical Arts Degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. While at UW he studied with David E. Becker and served as an Assistant Conductor with the Symphony and Chamber Orchestras and UW Opera. Previously he has served on the faculties at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

Active as a guest conductor, Dr. Alexander has conducted in Europe and Australia, as well as various venues in the United States. He has performed with the Maikop Symphony Orchestra and the Novgorod Symphony Orchestra in Russia, the Bacau Philharmonic in Romania, and the Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra. He has also conducted at the 2003 Catania Music Festival in Italy and in 2004 served as he Music Director for the Madison Savoyards Opera Company.

Dedicated to music education, for two years Dr. Alexander conducted the orchestra at Verona High School outside of Madison, Wisconsin; served on the artistic staff of the Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra; serves on the performing faculty with the Maud Powell Music Festival; and has contributed articles to the Teaching Music Through Performance book series. Dr. Alexander lives in Kennesaw with his wife Allyson, son Jacob and Cleo the Cat.
