Margery Macey teaches flute lessons at all levels from
beginner to adult. Her teaching program centers around
nurturing the love of music, encouraging, challenging, and
motivating her students, and preparing students as needed
for auditions and school placement tests. She has 14 years
private teaching experience in the Cobb/Cherokee County
area. Mrs. Macey has taught at the Kell High School Music
Conservatory since it opened in 2005, and has directed Flute
Juice Youth Ensembles at the middle school and high school
levels for 12 years. The Flute Juice Ensembles have
performed at the Galleria Mall, Hastings Garden Center,
Atherton Place Retirement Center, Atlanta Symphony Decorator
Showhouse, The Art Place, Christmas at Callanwolde, and
more. Mrs. Macey has directed flutists at band camps and
master classes at Etowah High School, Kell High School,
Freedom, Woodland, and Woodstock Middle Schools, and others.
Mrs. Macey is founder and past President of the 18 member
Flute Choir of Atlanta, which has performed throughout the
metropolitan Atlanta area for the past 18 years and in
Orlando, Chicago, Washington, D.C., Pittsburg, New York
City, and at Piccolo Spoletto in Charleston, SC. She has
played with the Silverwinds Flute Trio for ten years, and
she also plays with High Falutin’. Her flute students have
performed with the All State Band and Orchestra, the Atlanta
Flute Club Honors Flute Choir, the Cobb County Honor Band
and Clinic Band, and the Governor’s Honors Program. She
currently has a former student working toward a master’s
degree in flute performance and five former students
majoring in flute in college, one of whom received the first
place award, a $4000 value, given by the Atlanta Mozart
Society to study at the Universitat Mozarteum in Salzburg,
Austria.
Mrs. Macey holds a BA degree with Honors from DePauw
University, Greencastle, Indiana. She has studied flute
performance with Wallace Mann, former Principal Flutist with
the National Symphony, Harold Sharp, formerly with the
Atlanta Ballet Orchestra, Betty Bennett, former director of
the Cobb Symphony, Christina Smith, Principal Flutist with
the Atlanta Symphony, and Kathy Farmer, Principal Flutist
with the DeKalb Symphony. She has attended Wild Acres Flute
Retreat, over 20 flute master classes, five National Flute
Association Conventions, and eleven Atlanta Flute Fairs.
