Frequently Asked Questions
1. Which ensemble should
I apply for?
You do not need to apply for a specific ensemble.
However, it may be helpful to read the various
ensemble descriptions
on our website. Auditions are
held so that we can place you in the ensemble that fits
you best.
2. Do I need to have my
audition music memorized?
Memorization is not necessary and not required. We want you to feel as
comfortable as possible.
3. Can I request an
audition time/date?
Audition dates are set, but you can certainly request a
specific date or time within those days.
4. When will I receive my
audition time/ date?
GYSO&C will send a receipt of application within 48
hours of receiving your application. Further information
will be provided on that correspondence.
5. When does GYSO&C rehearse
and when does the program start/stop?
GYSO&C rehearses once a week on Sundays. The GYSO&C
season adheres to the academic calendar as closely as
possible with respect to holiday's and vacations. GYSO&C
runs during the school year, with rehearsals starting in
August and ending in May.
6. Do I need to dress up
for the audition?
Dressing up is not mandatory. Most people wear
dressy-casual, comfortable clothes to the audition.
7. When do I apply for
financial aid?
After you are accepted into one of the orchestras,
please call the GYSO&C office to request a need-based
financial aid form if you would like to apply for aid.
Financial aid only covers the tuition (or a portion of
the tuition); it does not cover the $25 application fee.
8. When and how will I find
out the results of the audition?
You will not receive any audition results over the phone
or on the website. E-mails will be sent after all
auditions have concluded. Typically, you will be
informed when the letters will go out during the
auditions, so you know when to expect notification. Under NO circumstances
will results be given over the phone prior to the
conclusion of auditions.
9. Do current GYSO&C students
have to audition?
Yes. All interested students must audition for the
program.
